Overview

Flickr is a great photo app for storing family photos and presenting them individually or in Albums that can be linked to a person or family in MyFamilyArchive.

When using Flickr for family photos, you will likely use four basic features, as follows:

• Photostream - When you upload photos to Flickr, they appear in your Camera Roll chronologically in the order they were uploaded. This is a good feature in that if you have a group of photos already in a folder on your computer or a hard drive, and upload these together, it becomes easy to simpy put all of these quickly into an Album without searching your library.
• Camera Roll – Your photos are organized via metadata by date.
• Albums – You can select photos from either your Camera Roll or Photostream to create an Album that can be linked to your MyFamilyArchive collections.
• Albums & Collections – Here is a helpful way for you to organize your Albums by family or person and find if an Album that you’ve created has been organized.  An Album holds your photos.  A Collection holds your Albums.  So one good way to organize your Collections is to create one Collection for each person on your family tree. Then, when you create an Album, you can organize it into one of these Collections and more readily link it to that person in your MyFamilyArchive account.  You access Albums & Collections by navigating to the Home Page and clicking You > Organize > Albums & Collections. There you can add a new Album or a Collection, and drag an Album into a given Collection.

Settings

First you'll want to set your photo permissions on Flickr so that they're not set for public viewing.  To do this, go to your account photo (top right) > Settings > Privacy and Permissions (top banner) > Defaults for new uploads (pink section title) > Who will be able to see..." (first item under title). We suggest fixing all settings at "Your Friends and Family". Save settings.

To Create an Album

• Upload photos from your computer to Flickr.  Do this by clicking the “upload to cloud” icon near your profile in the top right of the screen.  You can then drag photos from your computer into the work space.  These photos are placed in your Photostream.
• In the Flickr 2nd banner click on Albums and then click on New Album.
• Your Photostream photos will show in a single strip at the bottom of the screen.  Drag those photos you want for your album into the workspace above.
• Add a Title to your Album
• Drag the photo you want to be your header image (which will also be the automatically generated image for your MyFamilyArchive entry) to the photo box above the Title.
• Click Save

To Get Album Link

• Click on the Flickr logo in the top left of the screen to go to the home page
• Hover over You (just to the right of the logo) and select Albums
• Hover on the Album you wish to get a share link and click the forward arrow and copy the link from the popup.  This will be the link for pasting into MyFamilyArchive.
