Understanding Entries vs. Linked Albums

Differentiating an "Entry" from a "Linked Album"

Let's Start with the Collection Page
Each person and each family in your collection has a Collection Page. The right column is the core of each Page and comprised, at its highest level, of Chapters, such as that shown below in "Collapse All" view.

Adding Linked Albums
Your Collection is developed by adding Linked Albums to each Chapter.   The Linked Album is the core element in MyFamilyArchive, and each is essentially a Title, Description, Preview Image and a "Share Link" to a memory stored in another cloud site.

Clicking a preview image opens a new tab in your browser to view that memory.

Entries vs. Linked Albums
We initially designed each Collection Page to be a simple list of Chapters and underlying Linked Albums. But we found that we often wanted several Linked Albums consolidated into the same topic.

This was the case in our "Best Family Vacations" Chapter (above) where we wanted each line item to represent just one vacation, and, for our "1966 Family Trip East", we wanted to archive three items: a digital photo album, a home movie and a journal.

Our solution was to allow multiple Linked Albums to be combined into one line item, and to term this line item an "Entry"
If an Entry contains multiple Linked Albums, it will have a numeral in the title, as shown below.
In multi-item Entries, clicking the Preview Image brings up a sub-menu (below) of the associated Linked Albums, each linking to a different media item.

So Which Is It?
Am I Adding "Entries" or "Linked Albums" to a Chapter?
We know this can get a bit confusing, but in an attempt to make your collection-building process as simple as possible, we have you first simply add a new Linked Album to any Chapter.
The Linked Album's Title, Description and Preview Image are then used to automatically create that initial Entry.

If an Entry has just one Linked Album, such as our "1968 California Trip - Part 1" (above) the "Entry" and the "Linked Album" are essentially one in the same.

To then add additional Linked Albums to any Entry, users simply click the Edit Pencil icon in that Entry to open an edit screen (shown below) then click on the "Add Another Linked Album" button (below).  It's as simple as that. (The next Help Topic in this section goes into more detail on this.)
You can add as many Linked Albums to an Entry as you wish.

So, in summary, each Chapter is comprised of a series of Entries, and each Entry can be just one, or several, Linked Albums.
